It’s Canada’s 150 birthday and as a gift to all you can receive a free pass of entry into all of Parks Canadas Parks. So I took advantage of this hopped into my car and was on my way to Jasper for a few days. Jasper shows some of the greatest beauty that Canada has to offer. The townsite is surrounded by mountains, and fills your lungs with fresh air. The winter gives you particularly good views of snow capped mountains and frozen lakes and waterfalls. Ive traveled all over the world and seen many beautiful landscapes but the Canadian rocky mountains are unlike anything else.
On this trip to Jasper, I walked around the townsite and was filled with memories of my first backpacking trip. I had just graduated high school and was about to embark on trip across Canada by train, Jasper was my starting point. I would travel east from jasper and countinue on too great Canadian cities such as Winnipeg,Toronoto,Montreal. It was the first taste of an addiction and it all started in Jasper.
As you travel through Jasper National Park, you will be rewarded with views of spectacular mountain ranges, and may even get to see some wildlife as well. Big horn sheep and caribou frequent the road side. Be sure to keep you distance when photographing and observing these magnificent creatures and definitely do not feed them! They are wild animals, and need to treated accordingly.
Hiking trails are great in the summer but can also be enjoyed throughout the winter, if your brave enough to brave the Canadian cold.
Just 100km south of the Jasper townsite you can go and see one of Canadas many glaciers at the Columbia Ice fields. Which are not to be missed and feel as if your in the arctic.
